Easter Magic in Port Alberni

Easter Bunny Express

Chilling Outside

I packed up the kids for a mini road trip in the beginning of April. We traveled from Oceanside over to good ol’ Port Alberni to take advantage of the awesome Easter Bunny Express. It was only $3.50 per ticket, so why the heck not? We also stopped in at the Walmart in town and loaded up on a few house items. We moved April 1st, so it was a good opportunity to grab some cheap essentials… And non-essentials, such as a garbage pail. Exciting, yes?

So what the heck is the Easter Bunny Express? It’s something I had never heard of prior to this day, but my sister had purchased tickets for it and invited my mom and my younger sister to go. My mom could not make the very long drive as she lives in Comox, so I reluctantly (excitedly) accepted her and took miss Aine.

Bouncy Castle

Bouncy Castle

Easter themed magnets, giant egg paintings, two bouncy castles, a petting zoo, face painting, “fishing,” and two themed treasure hunts all powered by awesome volunteers and sponsored by various sponsors (Boston Pizza, Fairway Market, Port Alberni Toy Run, two 4H clubs, etc).

When we first entered, the kids were handed two booklets. In one booklet, the kids had to collect stamps from bunnies stationed at hallowed trees. Each tree had a picture of a bird’s nest on it and inside that nest was a differing number of eggs. The kids had to use their smarts a little and match the number of eggs in the basket to the same number of eggs on a page in their booklet. They’d present the booklets to the “bunnies” (who were actually older ladies and gentlemen dressed up in non-daunting bunny suits… Adorable!) Whom would then stamp the page for them.

Face Painting

The other booklet was Elmo themed and you had to find Elmo and guess what he was doing based on the simple clues given (simple answers such as basketball) in words as well as by illustrated by Elmo in the nearby posters. If you guessed the word right, you would get a sticker on your page.

Once you filled up the books, you got to claim two prizes: One for each book. One was a chocolate motorcycle and the other was a bag filled with goodies. Delicious!

Petting Zoo

Petting Zoo

Aine especially enjoyed the petting zoo, though I don’t think the lambs were enjoying themselves. One of them just want to run away… I felt pretty bad for the poor thing.

Hmm, these pictures are more for my benefit, aren’t they? I couldn’t take a good picture of the activities inside because it was very busy. I love looking back on pictures and seeing just how sweet and innocent this little girl really is. Sometimes she acts so much older than she really is… It’s hard to remember just how gentle her soul is.
