After my last baby was born in 2017, I planned on creating an in-depth review of the classic Belly Bandit, which I used for the last two of my postpartum experiences. The original Belly Bandit wrap sits at around $50.00 give or take a few dollars. They do have a few different options, which get more and more expensive. To me, a few of them just seem like gimmicks that take advantage of new moms in a vulnerable area as they navigate their new bodies.
My stomach is flat after three kids. Full disclosure, this is purely genetics at play and I do not believe it is at all due to with my using the Belly Bandit postpartum. With that said, I would use this wrap again if I were to ever have another baby… Which is not very likely. The reason is simply due to the support it gives you.
Supporting Your Body With Belly Bandit
Although I don’t feel as though the Belly Bandit was overly helpful in my aesthetical recovery, which was admittedly low on my list of priorities, it did help with supporting my back. After we give birth, our abdominal muscles are incredibly loose. Pair this with a sudden decrease in our intraabdominal pressure, we have a back that is very susceptible to strain and injury.
Using a wrap of any sort is incredibly helpful in giving ourselves that necessary support to protect our backs within those first few weeks or months. For that reason alone, I did enjoy my Belly Bandit.
Belly Bandit is Awkward to Use
Although I did like the support that the belly bandit gave, I found it awfully awkward to use for a few reasons. First, it was simply too short and didn’t really have a good overall shape to it. As it is just a tube with no flare at the top or the bottom of it, it didn’t fit well around the ribcage nor the hip bones. As such, it would dig into my hips and ribs while securing my abdomen in.
The first few days and weeks postpartum are really awkward due to the amount of body fluid we have to deal with. Large underwear with pads that have to be changed out frequently paired with uncontrolled lactation/letdown. This paired with the way it would sit below the pant line on me, made it awkward to use the bathroom. I couldn’t get the hang of taking my underwear down from overtop or underneath the wrap while using the bathroom. Some days it just felt like too much work.
