December 15th through to December 24th
My goal was to hit that second milestone this week. Did I make it? Let’s take a look!
Highlight of this week: I completed every lesson to bring me to the second milestone of the program! That is pretty exciting… I just haven’t completed the dictations just yet from the final module of this milestone. Three more milestones to reach after this one.
My Transcription Pedal and headset came in the mail this week. I was actually very surprised to see that it had shown up, already. That is super exciting. Maybe I will do a video showing how I set it up — pretty easy on a Windows 10 PC.
Bumps in the road: I was on the road to reaching that milestone. I did not make it. December 24th 0430 hrs, the power went out. And it stayed out for the majority of the day, which made it… A little difficult to do my online school haha
Currently, each module contains lessons/educational pages to work through and ends with various numbers of dictations.
Lessons Completed this week: 6 lessons completed
Number of Dictations completed: 84, working towards topping that up to 122 in order to get to my next milestone.
Course hours estimated: Just shy of 300 hours estimate based on CanScribe’s timetable.
Goal date met for current location in course: According to the timeline put forth by CanScribe, I am caught up to March 10, 2022.

Program Summary and Review Thus Far
The transcriptions get increasingly difficult. Substantially so — there aren’t any small incremental increases in either length or difficulty; beit format, language, or grammar specific to Medical Transcription. It jumps from a light, informative conversation the first few transcriptions, then immediately launches into full blown medical transcription where you would need to be able to hear medical terms easily; know drugs and their uses, and understand human systems.
Obviously, this is needed for Medical Transcription, however the leep from easy transcription dictation to intense, convoluted language is insane for me — someone who has worked in the healthcare profession for over a decade. We go from 10+ transcriptions of varying lengths to over 30 transcriptions per unit, which includes dictations almost 10 minutes long.
Instead of driving the learning home, these dictations serve more as a barrier to course completion in my own opinion thus far. I have been wrong about these things before, though! I feel like a lot of students would fall off based on the amount of time one would have to spend on these tedious tasks that aren’t suited for take-away or solidifying education.
Many of the modules have a survey at the end of them and these surveys are reviewed. I don’t feel overly comfortable being honest in them until I have completed the program.
