Week Four CanScribe Medical Transcriptionist Course Journal

December 25-31st :: WEEK 4

Lessons Completed this week: 2.

Number of Dictations completed: 71 total dictations transcribed between Dec 25 and today. That makes 171 total for the entirety of the course now. The average number of dictations concluding each lesson module is 35.

Goal date met for current location in course: Between March 18 and March 26. I have completed the first lesson of this next milestone, but I have not started the dictations yet.

This week was met with a number of challenges, such as the power being out once again and my youngest being quite ill with a gastro-type illness… And also me trying to pack up the house as we are getting ready to complete our move. I should be out of this house by the end of next week (though will have until the end of the month to clean up). Unfortunately, there is snow everywhere outside and there were a number of garden items that I was unable to collect before the snow came down.

I wasn’t paying attention to the weather forecast. My bad.

Since last week, I completed transcribing the dictations for the Lymphatic, Immune, and Allergy module (38 dictations). I went on to complete the Endocrine system and its related 33 dictations. I have completed the lesson portion of the Sensory System module, but I have not yet completed its associated 32 dictations.

The dictations are a little overwhelming, given the sheer number of them for each module. That’s a lot of dictations to complete without having immediate instructor feedback on them. I feel like this program could be done by having 10 required dictations to transcribe, maximum, per each lesson, then having 20+ optional dictations that are just “highly recommended” that students complete.

Once I finish the 32 dictations that conclude the Sensory System module, I will be set to complete a PIE preparation and PIE assessment. After that, the lessons that follow include “Text Expander,” which I am pretty excited about learning! The other lessons are “Skeletal System,” and “Muscular System.” After then, I will be at the third Milestone.

I don’t have too much to really say about this week, given that I only had two days to actually work on it and even that was fragmented as I no longer have childcare. lol Good luck to meeee.
